Apical Surgery – Killarney, Co. Kerry
It is possible that a non-surgical endodontic procedure won’t be enough to save your tooth. The endodontist may recommend a surgical approach. Apical surgery may be indicated where healing after root canal treatment is unsatisfactory and retreatment isn’t feasible. This could be due to large restorations such as posts, fractured or separated instruments in the canal system or complicated/inaccessible canal anatomy.
What does apical surgery entail?
The endodontist performs this microsurgical procedure initially providing local anaesthesia before opening the gingival tissue near the root tip. Inflammatory tissue is removed along with a small section of the root tip. A small micro filling is placed in the root tip and sutures are placed to help the tissue heal.
